ABOUT this artwork:

Spike Milligan(If) is a riotous homage to absurdity, theatricality, and the razor wit of British humor. This surreal silk composition draws inspiration from Milligan’s nonsensical poem If, transforming his playful rebellion against power and pretense into a dreamlike architectural stage— part circus, part cosmic vaudeville.

A maze of impossible staircases spirals upward into a cotton candy nebula, populated by monarchs with fish faces, toothy parliaments, and flirtatious sailors under a balloon-filled sky. Each figure, rendered in luminous detail, becomes a caricature of imagined authority—poking fun at ego, etiquette, and the bizarre drama of existence.

At once hilarious and philosophical, this collectible silk print is a celebration of Spike Milligan's subversive legacy and the power of imagination unbound.

"If I were a Prince I'd say Give my socks a rinse! If I were a Queen I'd say Where have you been! If I were a King I'd say Kiss my ring! If I were a Ceasar I'd say Arrest that geezer But as a captain on a Whaler I say Hello Sailor!"
